SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Riptide return to Harbour Station looking to duplicate the home court playoff success of the Moncton Magic.
Moncton took a 2-0 lead over the Riptide in their best-of-five National Basketball League of Canada series, by winning their second straight game at home, this time 103-77 on Sunday.
The series shifts to the friendly confines of Harbour Station on Wednesday night as the Riptide look to protect home court and stave off elimination in the Atlantic Division semifinal. Game time is 7 p.m.
For the second straight game Saint John got off to a hot start, leading 23-16 after one quarter, but from there it was all Moncton, which led 42-37 at the half, and 68-51 after three quarters.
T.J. Maston, with 19 points, and Frank Bartley with 17, were the top scorers for Saint John, which shot 38 per cent from the field and hit on 7-32 three-point attempts. Jeremiah Mordi added 14 points and Kemy Osse chipped in with 10.
For Moncton, Trey Kell had the hot hand with 24 points. Freddie McSwain added 13 for the Magic, who shot 46 per cent from the field and connected on 8-28 three pointers. Moncton shot 21-25 from the free-throw line while the Riptide attempted only 15 fouls shots, sinking 10.
Game 4 of the series, in necessary, is scheduled for Thursday at Harbour Station. Game time is 7 p.m.
Game 5, should it be needed, is set for next 7 p.m. Saturday in Moncton.
