Saint John home for two this week following tough loss to Storm

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Island Storm erased an 11-point halftime deficit to down the Saint John Riptide 115-111 in National Basketball League of Canada play Sunday.

A driving two-pointer by Guillaume Boucard gave the Storm a 113-111 lead with five seconds remaining. Saint John failed to get the ball inbounds on the ensuing sequence leading to one more Boucard bucket to close the game.

T.J. Maston led the Riptide with 25 points. Frank Bartley poured in 20, including two late free throws that knotted the game at 111-111 with 25 seconds left.

Kemy Ossie contributed 16 off the bench while Chris Early added 14 for the ‘Tide, whose record now stands at 7-16. Bryce Washington, signed this week as an injury replacement for centre Randy Phillips, scored six points and added six boards in his Saint John debut.

Malik Story, making his first appearance for the Storm, scored a game-high 28, including seven three-pointers while Sampson Carter dropped 23. Boucard added 19 for the Storm, who improve to 5-15 with the win.

Saint John led 86-80 heading into the final quarter. The Riptide were up 64-53 at the half and 31-23 after one quarter.

Next up for the ‘Tide are a pair of home games at  Harbour Station – Wednesday versus the Atlantic Division leaders, the Moncton Magic, and Friday against the Storm. Both games are 7 p.m. starts.
