WINDSOR, Ont. – After reeling off three straight wins in Ontario, the Saint John Riptide suffered their first loss in the Heartland Province, falling 102-86 to the Windsor Express Friday night.

After leading for much of the first half, Saint John couldn’t overcome a sluggish start to the third quarter that saw Windsor go on a 22-3 run and never look back.

Frank Bartley led the way for the Riptide with 19 points. Kemy Osse scored 16 off the bench for Saint John, which shot 39 per cent from the floor.

Jeremiah Mordi finished with 15 points for the 4-12 Riptide.

Former Saint John fan favorite Horace Wormley came back to haunt his old team, scoring 18 points for Windsor. DeAndre Thomas also scored 18 while Juan Patillo added 17 for the Express, who improved to 7-8 on the National Basketball of Canada season.

The ‘Tide trailed 70-57 after three quarters. They led 43-41 at the half and 22-20 after one quarter.

Saint John is off on Saturday before suiting up against the London Lightning Sunday in a 3 p.m. AT start. They return to the Maritimes for a Thursday contest in Charlottetown against the Island Storm before facing the Highlanders in Cape Breton on Jan. 19

The Riptide will be back in the friendly confines of Harbour Station on Jan. 24 to play the expansion Sudbury Five and then have a return date with the Express on Jan. 25 in Saint John.
