Riptide bottle up Lightning for second straight road win
LONDON, Ont., – The Saint John Riptide return to the Maritimes riding a two-game winning streak.
The Riptide knocked off the London Lightning in convincing style, 111-87, Saturday night at the Budweiser Gardens.
Saint John improves to 2-5 while London falls to 4-3.
The win follows a thrilling 115-111 overtime victory Thursday night over the Sudbury Five and gives Saint John back-to-back wins against the National Basketball League of Canada’s top two Ontario teams.
Frank Bartley topped the Riptide scoring parade with 27 points. Kemy Osse came off the bench to provide 16 to go along with a team-high eight rebounds.
Daniel Dingle added 15 points.
Three other players – Brent Arrington, 14, Chris Early, 12, and Jeremiah Mordi, with 11 – scored in double digits for Saint John.
For London, Marcus Capers had 14 while Maurice Bolden chipped in with 13.
The Riptide entered the final quarter with an 82-67 lead, after pouring in 31 points in the third stanza and outscoring the Lightning by 11.
Saint John took a 51-47 lead into the half after Bartley drained a long three-pointer to end the second quarter.
London held a 39-37 advantage after the first stanza.
The ‘Tide return to the Maritimes for road games against the Moncton Magic, Dec. 16, Cape Breton Highlanders, Dec. 23, and Island Storm, Dec. 26.
The Riptide’s next home game is Dec. 27 when they’ll face the Halifax Hurricanes in a 7 p.m. start at Harbour Station.
