SAINT JOHN, New Brunswick — The Saint John Riptide ink 2x All Canadian and OCAA Player of the Year, Rayvon Higdon, out of Redeemer University.
The 6-2- Ontario native is eager to add his experience of helping the Redeemer program reach new heights and accomplishments to Saint John.
“I joined a team that had only made it to the playoffs one time and had one winning season prior. Helping lead them to back to back playoff appearances was a special feeling,” Higdon shared of his impact on Redeemer University, the OCAA, and the CCAA.
“Higdon brings nice size and versatile scoring at the primary ball-handler position, as well as, toughness and the ability to rebound from the guard spot,” assistant coach Tarale Murry said. “It’s important for us to maintain our defensive and rebounding identity as we build a more offensively versatile roster.”
Higdon averaged 21.6 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 5.5 apg, and shot 41% from the 3pt line in his final season, and he’s worked even harder throughout the summer to continue developing his body and craft in preparation for the season..
“This summer I focused on getting my body in better condition to handle the speed and physicality of the pro game,” said Higdon about adjusting to the pro level. “I’ve also been focused on my shooting off the dribble and crisper ball handling.”
Higdon was greatly appreciative of the Redeemer community for embracing him and making him feel like family and he’s ready to get to work and establish himself in the Saint John community.
“I’m really looking forward to meeting my teammates, the rest of the organization and putting on a show for the Riptide fans.”
