Versatile Big Man Williams Signs with Saint John

October 12, 2018

SAINT JOHN, New Brunswick — Brandon WIlliams, a 6-11 native Texan, has signed with the Riptide.

The incoming rookie played at Angelo State University and the University of Texas at Arlington in college and has had some experience abroad in China. He averaged 10.6 ppg and 6 rpg for Angelo State while shooting 63% from the field in his senior season.

“Brandon is a versatile big who is long and athletic. He has a nice shooting touch from the perimeter and also can operate well on the block,” head coach Nelson Terroba said. “We think he can make an impact on both sides of the floor.  He has a passion for the game, is a hard worker and has a great skill set that we think will translate well in the NBL.”

“I did a little playing in China and Taiwan but didn’t find a place that I felt I fitted. I felt I could learn a lot and develop as a player at Saint John,” Williams said.

To get ready for the season, Williams has been doing percentage-based shooting drills, post moves and lifting during the summer.

“I learned through the personal signing process that you have to find a program and family that you fit into and that will push you as a player,” Williams said.  “I’d like to thank Coach David Lewis, Coach Tarale Murray, and Coach Terroba for helping me along the process.”

“I think Brandon is scratching the surface of what he will eventually grow into.  He has a growth mindset, is a committed learner and has a desire to be great.” Terroba said. “We look forward to working with him.”
