SAINT JOHN, New Brunswick —The Saint John Riptide are excited to announce the signing of NBL veteran guard Rick Bodiford.

The 6-foot-4 Louisville, KY wing comes off a successful campaign last summer with Garra Canera de Navolato in the CIBACOPA league in Mexico where he averaged 14.6 ppg and 4.9 rebounds per game.

“First off I love the culture in Saint John. Every time I would come play in Harbor Station for the opposing team the fans were always so into the game, which made for a tough road game. Also all the good things I heard about the organization as a whole, and having an extensive conversation with Coach Nelson made my decision pretty easy,” Bodiford said.

“Rick is a versatile wing who can shoot well from the perimeter, but also is a great cutter and knows how to move without the ball,” head coach Nelson Terroba said. “He is definitely a 2-way player who takes pride in defense and can help rebound from the guard position.”

After completing his NBL season, Bodiford spent his summer in Mexico and Atlanta.

“Most of the summer I played in another league (CIBACOPA) which I gained a lot of experience from but most importantly for me is working out with one of my best friends, Rajon Rondo, and picking his brain on what he sees on the court so I can apply that to my game,” said Bodiford, who calls Atlanta home when he is not playing in the summer.

Bodiford played last year in Cape Breton and Kitchener, and has played a total of five years of experience in the NBL.

“Over the years I’ve played in the NBL, I have learned many things. Taking care of your body is big because it’s a grueling season. Weights, extra court work, treatment etc. Collectively, teams that play together to reach one common goal are extremely hard to beat. It’s so much talent in the NBL and I’m happy to continue to be a part of it,” Bodiford said.

“Rick is a player who we always noticed when we played against him. He just seemed like he was willing to do whatever was needed to help the team win,” Terroba said. “I think he takes pride in being able to impact the game positively in a variety of ways. We appreciate and applaud his versatility, competitive spirit, and eagerness to adapt to whatever challenges come his way.”
