SAINT JOHN, New Brunswick — Sharp-shooting versatile wing-forward Ayob Ayob has signed with the Saint John Riptide.
The 6-foot-7 Winnipeg native had a short stint with the Windsor Express last year. Before that, Ayob, who goes by Daniel, played at Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he averaged 15.5 ppg and 5.3 rpg. He shot 42% from the 3-point line and 79% from the free throw line, with a 7-foot wingspan. He started 30 of 30 games as a senior.
“We think Daniel will be a great fit for the Riptide. He can shoot it very well, but also has shown versatility in his game in college. His length and size and shooting make him a versatile option on both offense and defense,” Nelson Terroba, Head Coach and General Manager, said.
“The reason I decided to sign with the Saint John is because of the great coaching staff— I feel like they are going to push me to be the best player I can be and turn my game into the next level,” Ayob said. “I am also excited for all the great players I will get a chance to play with and get to call my teammates.”
This summer, Ayob has been playing a lot of FIBA 3×3 basketball around Europe and Canada to better get prepared physically, and has been training to get stronger and stay in shape for the upcoming season.
“I’m excited to be a Saint John Riptide and show all the fans of the city what I’m made of,” Ayob said.
“We are excited to get to work with Daniel. He seems hungry and eager to grow as a pro. We think he will love being a part of the Riptide and the Saint John community,” Terroba said.
