MONO, ON – The Saint John Riptide continued their five game trek through the province of Ontario on Wednesday night making a stop at the Athlete Institute in Mono to tangle with the Orangeville A’s. Both squads game into this mid-week contest riding win streaks with the A’s having won two straight and the visiting Riptide winners of four in a row.
It was a slow start for the visitors as the A’s seized control in the opening minutes in front of their home crowd. Easy shots weren’t falling for Saint John and they were never able to get in front in the first 12 minutes of play. Orangeville was shooting at a high percentage early on but only managed a one point lead after one quarter, 25-24.
The Riptide offence came alive in the second quarter as the big guns began to heat up. Anthony Anderson turned on the jets scoring double digit points in the frame while Chris Commons looked very comfortable as he played in just his second game as a member of the Riptide. Those key contributions from the two NBL Canada veterans allowed Saint John to grab hold of the lead at halftime 59-54.
It was all Saint John in the second half of this one as the Riptide outscored the A’s by five in the final 24 minutes and secured their fifth straight victory, 107-97. Anthony Anderson and Gabe Freeman finished with 24 points apiece while Horace Wormely and Chris Commons each had 16. Stefan Nastic and Rick Bodiford lead the way for Orangeville with 18 points each.
