The National Basketball League of Canada announced on Sunday that Saint John Riptide forward Haakim Johnson has been named the league’s Atlantic Division Player of the Week for the week ending January 8th, 2017.
Johnson is a six-foot-seven forward who played collegiately at Pikeville (Kentucky) College. This week he averaged a double-double of 17 points and 11 assists in two Riptide victories, which firmly keeps the team in second place behind the 6-0 Halifax Hurricanes in the NBL Canada’s Atlantic Division.
In the first game of the week for the Riptide, Johnson posted 16 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three-for-six shooting from beyond the arc and six-for-11 from the field in a 92-86 win over the Moncton Miracles on the road. He followed that up two nights later with 18 points and 10 boards while shooting eight-for-14 from the field in a 95-82 home victory over the Niagara River Lions.
