Saint John Riptide are proud to announce the signing of Brian Addison for the 2016-2017 NBL Canada season.
Acquired in a trade with the Island Storm, trading the team’s first pick, # 7 overall, in the NBL Canadian Draft; 6’10’’ power forward Brian Addison joins the Riptide.
A University of Buffalo standout, Addison was named NBL Canada Player of the Week in February 2016, the result of a 26 point, 10 rebound game against the Moncton Miracles.
“Brian is the missing pick ‘n pop guy we were looking for, I have always liked his game. I tried to get him 3 years ago when we went into the Atlantic Division Championship without a solid big,” says Coach and General Manager, Rob Spon, “Unfortunately we couldn’t make it happen and he went to Halifax after the D-League, upsetting us in the first round.
Brian has played a half season with the Halifax Hurricanes and the Harlem Globetrotters.
Addison’s international experience includes time with teams in Portugal, Slovakia/Czech Republic and Mexico.
“I also felt he was the Storms best player last year,” adds Spon. “That is one of the reasons I was happy that we got his rights on a trade. Another great offensive rebounder, and his consistent smooth jump shot for a 6-10 big beyond the arc makes him a dangerous weapon on offense. He can take bigs off the dribble and post up smaller power forwards down low on defense, another shot blocker for us.”
He ranked 6th in rebounds per game at 7.12, 292 for the season and 2nd for offensive rebounds at 3.1 per game.
