Saint John Riptide today announce the return of Canadian Jabs Newby for the 2016-2017 NBL Canada season.
“I’m looking for Jabs to contribute a lot more this year and excited to have him back. Jabs is only going to get better, he brings great work ethic. He is early to the gym and one of the last to leave, the sky is the limit for Jabs all he needs is confidence and I believe in him,” says Coach Spon. “He brings tough defense off the bench, is one of quickest players in our league and can knock down the open shot.”
Jabs has had two previous campaigns with the Saint John team. He was drafted second overall by Saint John in the 2014 NBL Canada draft. That same year he was named to the NBL Canada All-Rookie Team.
“I’m very happy to have Jabs back for this season,” says Paul Vaughan, Director of Basketball Operations. ”Since we drafted him back in 2014 he has developed into a threat at both guard spots and a great on ball defender.”
A Brampton, Ontario native, Jabs participated in the Raptors 905 2015 training camp and played with Saint John in the 2015-2016 NBL Canada season.
“Jabs will be our lead counselor for camps this season,” added Vaughan. “I can’t think of a better Canadian role model for the next wave of local talent.”
