Saint John Pro Basketball announces the signing of two guards for the 2016-2017 season, Dane Suttle Jr. and Varez Ward.
A native of Los Angeles, 6’6” Suttle Jr. played most recently in Australia Queensland Basketball League with the Brisbane Capitals. He averaged 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game. He played his college ball for Pepperdine 2008-2011
“Dane brings shooting and a big body to guard 3’s and quick enough to guard 2’s, he is very versatile, has a good handle and can push the ball on the break or take it to the hoop,” said Coach Rob Spon.
Ward at 6’3”, collegiately played for Texas 2008-2010 before transferring to Auburn University for the 2010-2011 season. Originally from Montgomery Alabama, Ward was highly recruited out of high school and was ranked #19 prospect in the country by Scout.com.
“Ward,” adds Spon, “is a combo guard but better at the point, he has the height and the build of Doug Herring Jr., so can guard 1 thru 3. He is very affective going to the hoop and has a good mid-range.”
“We believe Dane and Varez are two quality guards who will give our back court depth and versatility,” says Paul Vaughan, Director Basketball Operations.
