Former Warrior Pruitt Joins Riptide

Saint John Riptide announce the signing of Shaun Pruitt for the 2016-2017 NBL Canada season.

Pruitt, a 6’10 center/power forward, played college basketball for the University of Illinois. In his senior year Pruitt started 33 out of 34 games while averaging 12.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game and shot a career best 56% from the free-throw line. He was a third-team All-Big Ten selection by media and honorable mention All-Big Ten by league coaches. He finished his four-year career with 1,058 points, 697 rebounds, 52 blocks, 49 assists and 42 steals.

“Shaun brings low post scoring from a big man that I haven’t had in the 2 years I have been in Saint John,” says Coach and GM Rob Spon. “Someone we can throw the ball down too and get a good post move, or a foul, or a kick out for an open 3. Shaun can face up and shoot the 15-20 foot jump shot and being very strong he is a rock in the low post on defense.”

Professionally Shaun’s experience includes NBA exposure and extensive international experience.  He has played with New Orleans Hornets in the 2008 NBA Summer League, with the Golden State Warriors in 2009, the Phoenix Suns for the 2010 NBA Summer League, and in 2011 he signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Pruitt was selected by the Grand Rapids Drive in the third round of the 2014 NBA Development League Draft.

Internationally he has played with professional teams in the Czech Republic, Latvia, China, Greece, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Venezuela, Uruguay and Dominican Republic.
